About ESS
ESS was formed some 18 years ago, and has been an extremely stable organisation since its inception. There has been one change of ownership, some years ago, to an existing employee; the previous owners being retained as consultants.
The changeover of ownership was transparent to customers – the only thing that has been noticed since is an improvement to service activities and an increase in engineering staff, thus giving a better overall customer package.
ESS is currently in an expansion phase, which will further improve the deliverables to the customer. There has been a recent investment in a new server / IT infrastructure, which will provide “real life” training for those customers unable to visit the factory. It will also increase the number of terminals that provide remote support, together with increased speed.
There has been further investment in recent times to our facility. With a new assembly room and complete refurbishment of the whole building, this will improve the overall quality of the products that we offer and enable expansion of the range of services we are able to provide.
We are also actively recruiting; having taken on a new trainee engineer (as part of our “educational” strategy) and are actively seeking further, more senior positions.
ESS is proud to support academic institutions both in the UK and overseas, particularly in the research sectors, and offer a range of incentives to worthy projects.
Manufacturing and Quality Control- ISO 9001 Approved
ESS prides itself in providing analytical and engineering solutions that exactly fulfill our customer’s requirements. This may mean that there are subtle differences between systems, as we strive for our “no compromise on performance or quality” approach. The reality of the situation is that 90% of parts are common to ALL systems, with only a small percentage being bespoke to a particular application. However it is this aspect that gives us the ability and flexibility to match our customer requirements.
This “common parts” platform for manufacturing means that we are in a much stronger position to provide short delivery timescales on our systems, together with the ability to improve our service and support activities.
ESS achieved and has held BS EN ISO 9001:2008 since 1997 and enforces strict quality procedures with all subcontractors, in line with our accreditation. Existing suppliers are frequently visited and there is a strict conformance procedure for each and every item delivered to our premises. Our in-house engineering staff design many of the components that we use.
Staff and ability to support
ESS engineering staff (with the exception of trainees) have many man-years of experience and expertise in Mass Spectrometry, with most of the expertise coming from the high pedigree background of VG.
The staff of ESS are by far the “prize asset” of the company and as such we offer several advantages over our competitors. ESS has the experience not only to service our own products but a variety of products and systems with the in-house experience and stock of spares and a reverse engineered solution against obsolescence.
Our prestigious customer list demonstrates the long term stability and support that we offer, and further confirms the capabilities of our staff.
