European Spectrometry Systems Process Gas Analysis

The GeneSys-P range of on-line process mass spectrometers from ESS offer fast multiple gas detection in 24/7 critical processes.  Mass Spectrometers allow programming of up to 64 individual gases for simultaneous acquisition. Acquisition times are very short ( as little as 10mS per gas) allowing the analyser to acquire multiple gas signals and update the plant supervisory system in a very short time.

Very low level detection is available on many common compounds at sub ppm or single ppb levels, depending on the compound and the inlet system used. GeneSys-P MS analysers are able to monitor aggressive compounds such as Chlorine, HF and HCL and are unaffected by high moisture levels or particulate. Process pressures up to 100 Bar may be monitored and sample stream temperatures up to 1400 °C can be handled with a heated capillary inlet system.

The speed advantage of MS analysis allows a single instrument to monitor a group of sample points sequentially, whilst still providing fast overall analysis times. By adding a Navigator ™ multiple inlet stream selector to the analyser, up to 20 sample points may be monitored or controlled by a single analyser.

Multi-Pro ™ Software allows process specific programming of the time spent on each inlet, order of inlet switching and even allows for analysis of different gas matrices on each inlet. The result is a fast, flexible and very cost effective analysis package when compared to discreet analysers. Process Integration is no problem with GeneSys-P. Data may be collected over any current process standard and logged directly on the plant SCADA for process records. Control of the analyser via plant SCADA is also available. GeneSys-P can integrate with traditional 4-20mA, 1-5V, 10-50mV analogue systems, RS232, RS485, Siemens-S7 and any network protocol.

Robust Gas Analysers for Process environments GeneSys-P instruments have been developed to meet the challenging environment of process applications. Instruemnts are available in robust industry standard 19" racks for Rack-Room and Analyser House locations or in sealed, purged rail mounting IP65 enclosures for direct plant location.

Gas-purge interlock systems are available to ensure fail-safe operation in classified areas and in-board miniature air conditioners ensure continuous operation in high ambient temperatures. Very Fast Analysis Users unfamilliar with MS techniques often express surprise at the incredible acquisition and response rates on offer. MS based systems from ESS offer response times of less then 120mS for a 100% step change in measured value and are able to acquire a single gas signal at 10ms intervals giving unrivalled insight for time critical processes. The incredible speed of MS analysis allows multiple gas monitoring (up to 64 channels) on a single instrument and multiple sample point monitoring (up to 64 sample points) whilst maintaining rapid SCADA updates across all active channels.

Multiple Gas Analysis Beacuase of the very fast acquisition speeds offered by MS, it is possible to acquire readings from multiple gases in relatively short times. A typical quantitative analysis cycle of ten low level process gases could take as little as 1 second to complete, including full analysis, screen update, data storage and SCADA update times!. Flexible device programming allows a single GeneSys-P to perform the work of many discreet analysers.

Multiple Sample Points A further advantage gained from speed is the ability to run analysis on Multiple Sample Points from a single instrument. Programming allows selection of the sample points, order of analysis, dwell times, type of analysis and data-set creation on each point. High analysis speeds ensure that a single instrument is able to analyse multiple gas matrices on multiple sample points in very short cycle times. A typical analysis of 10 gases across 10 different sample points could take less than 60 seconds to complete!

User Software MS based systems have developed a "Rocket Scientist" reputation in analytical fileds due to the historic complexity of some early systems. ESS have developed MS systems which are rugged and reliable, but above all easy to use. Simple user interaction by buttons and dialogue controls all of your analysis variables with all MS functions running in background. Add the system to your SCADA and it's just another analyser, acessible from control room monitors and your own standard user interfaces.ESS will work with you to tailor the application to your systems and your personnel.
